My Teaching Philosophy: Music lessons should be memorable for being both educational and FUN Teaching Qualification: CT ABRSM ABRSM Exams: My students have achieved good results in music exams. I help to run the ABRSM exams in the Caterham area and exams are held in my house. We strive to put our candidates at their ease and make the experience an enjoyable one. Performing Opportunities: I was once told that the best way to overcome performance nerves is to play as often as you can in front of people. For this reason I encourage students to frequently play in front of family and friends and to take part in local music festivals and concerts. References: I am able to provide references from parents, adult students and work colleagues I have been CRB checked. About me: My love of making music began at the age of five when I started to learn both the piano and recorder. My first piano teacher was a delightful retired lady who did not believe in entering students for exams. The knowledge and skills she helped me to acquire won me a place at the North Bucks Music School. Here I studied the piano, French Horn and music theory, took ABRSM exams performed in music festivals and played in the North Bucks Youth Orchestra and North Bucks Wind Band. I was also a member of the Buckingham Brass Band for which I played the cornet and flugelhorn. After leaving school, it was several years before I was once again able to be directly involved with music. I then studied for and achieved Grade 8 piano, competed in local music festivals and honed my teaching skills through studying the ABRSM’s CT Teaching Course. I love furthering my understanding of all kinds of music and do so by studying with Jason Gardner (flugelhorn and trumpet) and Audrey Thomas (piano). We need never stop learning.
